why i built Second

The pain was always the same

Across different companies, clients, and call setups, the same problems kept showing up:

  • Meeting bots create bot embarrassment. They change the tone of the room, especially on sales calls and client-facing calls.
  • Sensitive conversations create privacy anxiety when audio and transcripts are pushed to the cloud by default.
  • Most tools still leave you with transcripts that pile up and never turn into follow-ups, tickets, or decisions anyone can actually use.
  • Even when recording worked, I still had to manually copy-paste notes into ChatGPT or Claude to get anything useful done after the meeting.

My version of that problem

I've worked inside companies and with a lot of clients. That means constantly adjusting to someone else's stack: Zoom here, Meet there, Teams somewhere else, different rules, different expectations, different levels of comfort with recording.

Meeting recordings were always a pain. No matter what tool was in place, I still ended up doing the same manual work after the call: finding the transcript, checking what was actually said, pulling out action items, and then pasting everything into ChatGPT or Claude to make it useful.

I didn't want another dashboard. I wanted an app that worked for me: native on Mac, local-first, no visible bot, and structured enough that AI could actually help after the meeting instead of creating one more transcript graveyard.

What I wanted Second to do

  • Record calls without a bot joining and changing the meeting dynamic.
  • Keep audio, notes, and transcripts on my Mac so I don't lose access to my own history.
  • Turn a meeting into something usable: summary, decisions, action items, and clean local files.
  • Work across the tools people already use instead of demanding one blessed stack.
  • Make the output useful for humans first and agents second, without forcing everything through a vendor dashboard.

Second is for you if ...

  • You hate the awkwardness of a visible note-taking bot in the call.
  • You want meeting data to stay closer to you, not disappear into a cloud product you barely control.
  • You work across clients, teams, and different meeting stacks and need something flexible.
  • You want notes that lead to work, not a transcript graveyard.
  • You use Claude, Codex, or your own workflows and want meeting output that plugs into them cleanly.

That's really the whole point

Second is the app I wanted for myself: calm during the meeting, useful after the meeting, and respectful of the fact that these conversations often matter.

If that sounds like the way you work too, then you'll probably understand why I built it.
