What Second asks for and why

  • Microphone access if you want Second to capture your own voice alongside the meeting.
  • System audio capture permissions when you want to capture the audio coming from your call on macOS.
  • Speech recognition or local transcription access so Second can turn captured audio into notes on your Mac.
  • Google sign-in only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Google Calendar read-only access only if you choose to connect your calendar for meeting context. Second does not create, edit, or delete events.
  • Local files so notes, transcripts, and meeting bundles can live in your own folders on disk.
  • CLI install is optional. It simply makes your local meeting files easier to use from the terminal with tools like Claude Code or Codex.

What Second does not do

  • No meeting bot joins your calls.
  • No recording starts without you starting it.
  • No calendar write access.
  • No cloud storage of your notes, transcripts, or recordings as part of the normal product flow.
